GTA IV Gets Pirate Love

Floggin\' will continue \'till you complete all missions...

Lookey, lookey. This isn’t oft to happen, but the Pirate community is recommending you run right out and purchase the latest edition of Grand Theft Auto. As soon as it’s available, that is. Joystiq reports on a PAL version floating in the torrent stream in which Pirates strongly encourage users to actually buy the game because “R* deserves it!”

Sony Hears the Cries, Gives Us Humongous Pacifier

PlayStation 3 XMB

Sony’s recent update not enough to tickle your fancy? A much needed update to the PlayStation store and the addition of support for DTS: Master Audio seem like a pretty major update by console standards, but Sony isn’t finished yet.

Peter Dille, VP of PlayStation Network says that Sony isn’t sitting still. He spoke out on PlayStation’s own blog promising several major features like the much rumored in-game XMB (Guide, for you Xbox users) and a video download service by year’s end.

Thanks to PS3 Fanboy.

DualShock 3 on shelves

DualShock 3 on shelves

Oh, goodies of gumdrops! Sony’s DualShock 3 is hitting retailers as we speak. Sony has promised that there isn’t a particular street date stamped on any of the shipping cartons, so retailers are free to sell them as soon as they arrive. Good hunting!

Properly placing the blame

What year is this? ~Heading down to the corner of my screen… Hovering Mouse…~ 2008? I though so.

Of the many dubious honors bestowed upon Britons this one surely comes close to the top spot: Speaking to the Daily Mail, Anne Diamond tells her harrowing tale of procurement, package dispersal, and subjection to the latest in horrifying video games… Games like Mario Kart 64 or Resident Evil 4 which “shouldn’t be allowed to be sold, even to adults.” Ms. Diamond’s conclusion is that video games can’t possibly be anything other than detrimental - not only to children, but to mankind. This sounds like super secret underground triple layer encryption for “I suck at being a parent, and everyone else’s sucking even more is the reason why.” ~Sniffles~

Hopefully the links provided here speak for themselves. I call shenanigans.

Assassin’s Creed meets MGS4

No, really!

Nimrod Lives!

ZOMG ROTFL!?!

Hopefully my absence has gone unnoticed. It’s only been, oh, months since I’ve done anything perceivable to teamnimrod.net. Personal opinions, politics, and silly reasoning aside I really have been working on a new layout and format for the front page of our website with several goals in sight. Or not…

The last few months have taught me - beat me senseless, rather - many lessons in humility and patience. I’m not a codemunkee like codemunkee, I’m not a morning person like Nrvous, I’m not as beautiful as FrootLoop or Tequila, I don’t pull for crappy football teams like Fersboo, and I’m nowhere near as smart as everyone else. All of this adds up to a whole lot of nothing being done on our site.

We do have something to show for it today, though. The solution you see here drastically improves our front end management and display capabilities. For those of you who aren’t web savvy, this is a Wordpress installation. I do intend to customize the install with our new logo and some kind of color scheme. I also intend to post Smokin’s various articles (you thought I forgot - HA!) and to streamline our meaning for existence.

While this updated layout isn’t our ultimate in happy things, it will serve in the interim of design of a implementation that’s taking much longer than I originally anticipated. Also, going forward we need to clarify a few things. Here’s some of the goals the founders have identified as needing immediate TLC:

  1. Clarify our position on the web. Our front page needs to be gamer-centric.
  2. Restructure the front pages of the website to better accommodate longer periods of inactivity.
  3. Reinvigorate interest with our existing members by finding time to join in our forum discussion and by contributing to other website content.
  4. Go on a recruiting spree.

Our biggest problem of late has been a lack of time and interest (we’re awfully tired, it seems) in maintaining the front page. We want the website to be a kind of one-stop site for our members. Useful links on the side, pertinent information available within one or two clicks, and at the very least decent articles focusing on game reviews and gamer news.

That doesn’t mean we want to take away from our users’ ability to contribute meaningful non-gamer related content, we just don’t think it needs to be front and center. Matter of fact, this layout is quite conducive towards users being able to submit their own content!

A few mods and some Bela Fleck songs later, here we are with what is hopefully a fresh start. I’ll be working on adding in our new logos and important links in the next few days. If y’all think this layout blows, let me know. I still have all of the old site files. The founders hope that all is well in Nimrod Land. We’ll see you online soon.
