I spent part of the evening chatting with a fellow classmate about tonight’s launch of Modern Warfare 2. His wife is the GM of a local GameStop, so he had his pulse on all things MW2. She’d arranged a pre-launch tournament complete with big screens and a local band in the parking lot. I’m getting too old to stay out all night waiting for a video game (much as I’d love to!) so I came home and hit up Google instead.
I came across an Ars article outlining a few… changes in the Modern Warfare universe, most of which don’t seem to be making the fan base very happy. The article specifically focuses on the PC version of MW2, but outlines a few doosies:
- Total number of players = 18 (weak sauce)
- No tweakability
- No booting the bad guys out of the room
- Game-selected hosting with a five second delay should the Chosen One drop out
I’m not sure what I think about this. Superficially it sounds like a lot of people griping for no good reason. The more I think about it though, the more I can relate. Even though I’ve been primarily a console player for the last decade, part of the appeal in PC gaming is the ability to do pretty much whatever the hell you want to with a game.
Ars pointed out that it’s only a matter of time before the hacker community comes up with some workarounds, but should they have to? I’m sure the game will be great but does the studio really need to take away features that their customers and fans want?

Apparently there will be truckloads of people to play with. The game sold "an estimated 4.7 million copies" in the first 24 hours of availability. Article here. The article doesn't break out console vs. PC, but suffice to say that the PC gamers' gripes are being overlooked.
People will flock to AAA titles despite the harsh criticism!

I need everyone in the group who buys this one to tell me what they think is the best highlight of the game. For some reason I just can't get into this one even though it looks slightly interesting to me.

You must send me a pm so I can know why there is a level that people think should be banned.

I think it's one of the better war shooters out there. Rainbow 6-2 was great but I think this is better. Story mode is great so far. Spec Ops is at times frustrating on veteren mode, (especially the timed missions), but still great. Have not played multiplayer yet but that's due to not many Nimrods owning it, or not being online to play, and the fact that I hate public rooms.

I don't feel old. I don't feel anything until noon. Then it's time for my nap. |

For me, the highlight is making it past the recruiting stage. Now everything should be clear sailing. Should only take me only about 2 months to get through it. Still working on Gears 1.

I like all the aspects of the game. Love the SpecOps, A little more challenging than you might think and like that you can online with someone to do them.Multiplayer is okay if you're with a group of friends but the timmies out there are just like in any other game. Story mode is good, I already beat it on Vet. I think taking back the capital is one of the harder missions but fun and a challenge. It's a good buy D, get it.
