SDS3: 2 - Stop Telling Me How To Live My Life

SmokinDragon’s Sanity Seeking Soapbox:

[Author’s Disclaimer: Do not attempt to read this if you suffer from a closed mind, a lack of common sense, or are in any way offended by the concepts of freedom, personal responsibility, or basic American values. I’m warning you now that my opinions will either generate a response of “amen brother” or something less polite. Side effects of my soapbox rants have been known to include thoughts of self-examination, belief in “old-fashioned values,” and changes in perspective… and for those who are deeply indoctrinated in the more liberal, socialist, nanny-state, anti-choice perspectives… your head might explode. You were warned – proceed at your own risk.]

Don’t drink alcohol. Don’t eat meat. Don’t smoke. Don’t eat lots of carbohydrates. Don’t eat processed food. Don’t shop at “big-box” stores. Don’t eat genetically modified food. Don’t mention Christmas, Easter, or any other holiday with religious connections. Don’t drink coffee. Don’t spank your children. Don’t drink milk or eat dairy products. Don’t drive a big car, sports car, truck, or SUV. Don’t eat foie gras or veal. Don’t wear leather or fur. Don’t eat foods high in fat. Don’t believe in outdated concepts like marriage between a man and wife. Don’t eat seafood. Don’t own a gun. Don’t buy products tested on animals. Don’t pray in public. Don’t have an opinion or do anything that might offend anyone. Blah-blah-blah-blah-blah! The list of “don’ts” that we are bombarded with gets longer and longer every day, and the only consistencies I can find in all this “Do This – Don’t Do That” crap are:

1) All actions are choices or behaviors I am allowed to LEGALLY partake in.

2) The people trying to tell me how to live my life really don’t care jack about me and are only concerned with their petty agendas.

3) The so called “leaders” of these movements are the absolute worst at following their own proclamations and are the most selfish, egotistical, hypocritical liars ever to sell snake oil to the masses. They’re too important, too rich, or too “enlightened” to be inconvenienced by their so-called “truths.”

4) The zealots trying to tell me how to live my life refuse to discuss their ideas in a civilized, fact based dialogue, preferring aggressive campaigns of fear and intimidation to rational analysis. The blind followers of all these new doctrines have suspended rational thought and are just drinking the Kool-Aid. In some cases, they tend to react aggressively, sometimes violently so, when anyone supports an opposing view or takes part in their targeted behavior.

5) All of these “directives” have little to do with the defined behavior or activity and are more related to someone wanting to assert power and control over others. Continue reading ‘SDS3: 2 - Stop Telling Me How To Live My Life’

SDS3: 1 - No More Tag? What the *#@#! Are We Teaching Our Kids?

Punish the childrens!

SmokinDragon’s Sanity Seeking Soapbox:

Colo. school bans tag on its playground Thu Aug 30

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - An elementary school has banned tag on its playground after some children complained they were harassed or chased against their will.

“It causes a lot of conflict on the playground,” said Cindy Fesgen, assistant principal of the Discovery Canyon Campus school.

Running games are still allowed as long as students don’t chase each other, she said.

Fesgen said two parents complained to her about the ban but most parents and children didn’t object.

In 2005, two elementary schools in the nearby Falcon School District did away with tag and similar games in favor of alternatives with less physical contact. School officials said the move encouraged more students to play games and helped reduce playground squabbles.

A few months back I read with great consternation that a Colorado Springs elementary school (just a little ways down the road from my home) had banned the age-old game of “tag” on the playground. This follows in the wake of many schools across the country banning similar activities and games, especially those related to one of my personal favorite childhood games - dodge ball. Kids have been playing tag and other chase games since before our country had fenced schoolyards and supervised playgrounds. But at this school, and a few others of similar mindset, no longer will you hear the almost sacred words of “tag, you’re it!” The reason the school administrators gave for outlawing a staple of childhood fun is that these games cause “conflict” or “squabbles” on the playground. Firefox accounts for 50 percent of Team Nimrod hits

Get Firefox!

Hooray for open source free stuff!

In preparation for Firefox 3 (on to Beta 5 as of this publishing) I thought I’d share the Google Analytic stat that says 49.54% of all page views and click-ins come from the Firefox web browser. While Team Nimrod is all about open source, we’re also big on consumer choice. Teamnimrod.net works very well with Firefox and IE7. We’ll be testing with Opera and Safari (for Windows) here pretty soon.

As always, if y’all notice anything janky or out of place then please notify us in the forums. If any Mac user out there wants to comment on their browsing experience, be sure to sound off over in our forums!
